How to Make Sure You Are Living in a Healthy Environment

What is the most important thing in the world to you right now? Wait, don’t say it. Whatever it is, it is not more important than being healthy. Apart from the cliché sentences such as “You have to eat healthy food” and “You should be working out”, there is one thing that is even more important. That is living in a healthy environment, and it is also an issue that not many of us pay attention to as we are taking it for granted. But how to make your home a healthier space? Are there any tips and tricks for that? 

1. Dust regularly

Obviously, the first thing that you need to do is dust regularly. Yes, dust is the #1 reason why we land with different illnesses, so dusting is not a chore that you should skip on. If you have children or sick people in your house, then this is an issue that should be dealt with as soon as possible. Dust at least two times a week, especially the things that you are always in contact with, and make sure to wear a protective mask while doing so.

2. Make sure the air is clean

Clean air is everything. One way in which you can ensure this is having plenty of plants around your house. Plants are there to purify the air and also give a bit of depth to your home. However, since not all of us have a green thumb, then we must turn to another option, which is buying air purifiers. Seeing as how there are probably many molecules in the air that we might be allergic to, it is also a great idea to consider having a high-quality air purifier for allergies as well. This can ensure you don’t have any problems with dust, pollen, mold and pet dander.

3. Skip on Teflon

Having a piece of cookware that food doesn’t stick to might sound like a dream come true, but the truth is completely different. Namely, Teflon is actually really toxic, and you should opt for safer alternatives. The truth is that different chemicals are used in order to make the cookware more persistent and long-lasting, and these chemicals can play a detrimental part in the health of our thyroid, immune system and liver.

4. Ditch plastic

Ditching plastic for some better options is not only important because of the health of our planet. Plastic is, contrary to popular belief, quite harmful for storing food as it contains different chemicals and materials that can affect your hormone levels. If they leak into your food, you might even feel the consequences after some time. Of course, this process is very slow and subtle, but then again, it does exist.

5. Declutter

This might not seem like an important part of the “staying healthy” process, but it is. Decluttering your desk, for example, will make sure that not a lot of dust and bacteria linger on different objects, and it will be much easier for you to clean it. Apart from decluttering your space, you should open the windows and let some natural air and light in. Natural lighting is extremely healthy, so you should have it as much as possible.

6. Have a small jungle

As already mentioned, purified air matters a lot, and one way to make sure of this is spicing up things by having plenty of plants in your home. Plants are great for decoration, and if you play wisely, you might be able to find plants that are actually quite low-maintenance. This means that you do not need to have a green thumb as everyone can take care of plants that need watering once a month. Simply try it out and you will see that once you get a plant, there is no going back.

Having a healthy home matters a lot. Apart from making sure that your home is a healthy environment, you should do the same with your car and other places where you spend a lot of time. Not only will you and your body be grateful for this, but also your kids and any seniors that might be living with you.
