6 Weight Loss Products You May Not Have Heard Of

There is no shortage of weight loss products on the market these days. Most of us are familiar with calorie counting, diet, and exercise. Despite one’s best efforts, however, sometimes traditional methods just don’t work when it comes to weight loss. Here are six unconventional weight loss aids that may help you finally shed that unwanted weight. 

1. Weight Loss Skin Patches 

There are many different types of weight loss skin patches out these days. Some claim to keep your body from absorbing carbohydrates where others may help boost your metabolism. These patches are usually applied once per day and contain many herbs such as yerba mate, green tea extract, and guarana extract to name a few. They are used to help with decreased appetite, as well as gain or maintain energy throughout the day. 

2. Lipo Rings 

Lipo rings are silicone rings that are worn around the toes and use a combination of magnetism and acupressure points to help aid in weight loss. It is said to also help suppress appetite. Before you give this one a try, however, do know that there isn’t a lot of substantial evidence supporting the ring’s claim of being able to help with weight loss. 

3. Prescription Pills

This year, the FDA approved a prescription drug called Plenity which helps to fill the stomach when taken prior to a meal. A mix of citric acid and cellulose expands in the stomach to help fill about a quarter of the space. This can lead to people feeling full while eating less food and calories. Because it passes through the digestive tract and is not absorbed into the bloodstream, there are no side effects to be concerned about. Another prescription to help aid with weight loss is called Alli. Instead of filling your stomach, however, Alli works by blocking the enzyme that is required to digest fat completely, so less fat is absorbed during digestion. There can be some gastrointestinal issues when taking Alli if you are still eating a high-fat diet. 

4. Ultrasound Fat Cavitation

Ultrasound fat cavitation is an alternative to liposuction and is marketed as a noninvasive body sculpting procedure. This process uses ultrasonic waves to turn fat cells into fatty acids, which are then disposed of by the body. This treatment is not for people who are obese, however. This is a treatment for areas of stubborn fat that need to be toned instead. 

5. White Kidney Bean Extract

White kidney bean extract has been popping up in new supplements for weight loss. Studies show that it may help block the enzyme that turns carbohydrates into sugar, which eventually gets stored as fat in your body. It should be noted that the extract is used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise regimen. It has also been noted to produce excess gas or bloating because, well, beans. 

6. Probiotics

In a 12-week weight loss diet, which was followed by a 12-week period of weight maintenance, women who used two probiotics from the L. rhamnosus family in their diet lost twice as much weight as women who only used a placebo.
