6 Tips for Helping Busy Moms Stay Fit

Daily exercise is a critical component of an overall healthy lifestyle. However, every busy mother knows finding ways to get exercise in while juggling all the other responsibilities you have can be challenging. Here are ways to get your daily exercise in so you can live a healthier life for yourself and for your family.

1. Walk it Out

Regardless of your child’s age, taking daily walks with your children is an easy way to get your exercise in while your children also get some quality outside time with you. Consider making it a daily rhythm in your schedule to take a walk early in the morning if your children are young or take a family walk after dinner with older children who have later bedtimes. Utilizing a fitness watch or your smartphone to track your steps can help you see how far you are walking each day. Aim for 10,000 steps per day.

2. Keep Your Summer Cool

If you are home with your children in the summer, make it a priority to find cool water to keep yourself and your children nice and cool in summer’s heat. If you live in South Carolina, one way to always have access to water is to find a local swimming pool contractor Charleston if you live in the area, to help you install a pool at your home. Other less costly ideas include buying a membership at a local community pool or exploring local beaches. If you are going to swim with your children regularly or install a pool, make sure you enroll your children in swimming lessons and install safety devices to keep them from accessing the water easily.

3. Join a Local Gym with Childcare

When you have children to supervise and care for, it can be hard to know how to workout regularly without more child care assistance. One easy fix is to find and join a local gym that includes or has childcare you can pay to utilize. Whether you take a fitness class or hire a personal trainer or simply use the gym equipment there you can assure yourself an uninterrupted workout.

4. Stream Workouts at Home

With modern technology at our fingertips and most people having access to high speed internet, streaming your workouts online is an easy way to fit workouts in wherever and whenever you have a few spare minutes. There are numerous workout apps available for smartphones or that can be streamed through streaming devices like Roku, Amazon Fire, smart TVs or on your computer or tablet.

5. Join a Moms Fitness Group

Ask your neighbors or friends or colleagues who live near you if they are aware of any local moms groups that get together to workout. There are groups like Stroller Stride, Fit4Mom and 99Walks where moms come together to find friendship and accountability for regular exercise.

6.  Build Exercise Into Your Work Day

One key piece to getting regular exercise is to schedule it into your days. If you are a working mom in an office, ask if you can get a treadmill desk, a standing desk and/or an exercise ball chair to be able to work and workout. If this is not doable, make sure to schedule a walking lunch break or even hit a local gym during a break in your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevators or make it a point to take longer routes as you move throughout the day.

While exercising for busy moms is not an easy task to fit into daily life, the payoffs of physical health, mental health, and role modeling healthy life practices for our children are invaluable. Finding ways to exercise regularly is key to a happy and healthy life.
