6 Steps to a Healthy You
As each year comes and goes, many people reflect on and prioritize living healthier. With busy lives and full schedules, it can be difficult to find time to make the commitment to exercise and eat well. While we all know what healthy living entails, it is much more difficult to put it into action. So, it is important to break up creating a healthy lifestyle into easier, more manageable steps. This includes what and how much you are eating, the type of and frequency of exercise, the quality of your sleep and making time for things you enjoy. All of these things are intertwined in the web of becoming healthier, and without all these key components in place, your health will be lacking. While it can seem like a huge undertaking to address all these areas of your life at one time, choosing one or two to focus on and then moving on to the other ones can be a good way to achieve your goals and feel a sense of accomplishment.
1. Eat Less
Sometimes the issue with food is not what you are eating but how much. How many times have you been out to eat or to a party and ate until you felt sick? How often do you go back for second helpings when one plate is more than enough? Instead of changing the types of food that you eat, try reducing the amount that you eat. While it is important to choose healthy foods, anything in excess is not good for you.
2. Eat Better
Once you have mastered eating less and managing your portion sizes, start making a conscious effort to choose better foods. Try to eat whole grains instead of simple carbs. Choose fruits and vegetables as a midday snack instead of chips or cookies. Do some meal prep at home and eat nutritious dinners every night. 3. Exercise More
Everyone does not like the same type of exercise, and that is okay. Try out several different types to learn what you like best. No matter how you choose to exercise, be sure that you are doing it consistently.

5. Sleep Better
Along with sleeping for the recommended interval of time, make sure that you are getting healthy sleep. Do not drink caffeine or exercise right before bed. Try not to eat a heavy meal or snack right before bed either. Make a nighttime routine for yourself that is consistent and lets your body wind down. Try to put your screens away for at least an hour before bed.
6. Prioritize Your Mental Health
While physical health is imperative, mental health is also a part of complete wellness. Take time to do things that you enjoy, and talk to a licensed counselor if you have been struggling with anxiety or depression. In today’s hectic world it can be easy to forget to take care of your mind, but it is essential that you are taking time for yourself and just relaxing and enjoying life.
Making a commitment to living healthier does not have to be a complete life changing event that happens overnight. By making a few changes to your normal habits each day, you can be on the road to making healthy life choices in everything you do.
